Problem and solution for non working Realtek 8019AS ISA network adapter
I had a problem to start Realtek 8019AS ISA network adapter under Debian GNU/Linux 4.0 Etch. I try to made a netinstall from a "bussiness card" iso, and there I can't see that network adapter. I enter in a site of Realtek - www.realtek.com.tw There I find a solution for my problem (taken from ftp://209.216.61.149/cn/nic/linux.txt):
(1.) Basically, Linux had built-in 8019AS's driver in kernel. You could use NE2000 compatible driver in Linux. You should use "NE" in Linux. Of course, you should run diagnostic program "rset8019.exe" to make sure your IRQ and IO address first.and
when system boots, the driver will be load. then the driver will
scan {0x300,0x280,0x320,0x340,0x360} port to see if a card is
there.
(you can run 'dmesg' to see the boot message)
ps: in some case, PNPISA may assign ioports not in the range. you
can use 'rset8019' (in DOS) to set the card in jumpless mode
and set ioaddr to one of these ioport.
When I check with "rset8019.exe" (taken from ftp://209.216.61.149/cn/nic/rset-8019(330).zip) under DOS (the difficult in all process to start DOS) I saw that my Realtek 8019AS ISA network adapter use 0x220 I/O address. Through the dos software I reduce I/O range to 0x300,0x320,0x340,0x360 and exclude 0x280 I/O address.
After that intervention Debian recognize that ISA Realtek 8019AS with "NE2000/NE1000 ISA/PNP" driver. In BIOS of motherboard row "Use PNP OS" must be set at "No".
I wish You a nice day.
ps. For other software and solutions check Realtek FTP server at ftp://209.216.61.149/cn/nic/
